Top 5 Herbal Remedies for Menopause

Menopause is a transitional period for women, which begins in their late 40s or early 50s. This is the time when women experience hormonal changes in their bodies, resulting in weakened bones, weight gain, and bloating. Women may also suffer from other symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings, irritation, tiredness, night sweats, etc. All of this can severely affect the physical and mental health of a woman. 

The good news is that menopause symptoms can be treated with prescription medications. But before you try that, you may want to treat them with the tried-and-tested herbal remedies for menopause listed down here. 

1. Ginseng 

Ginseng is a medicinal supplement that has been used to promote relaxation and reduce stress symptoms for centuries. During menopause, it’s common for women to suffer from insomnia due to hot flashes and sweats. Ginseng is one of the best herbal remedies for menopause as it helps calm women’s nerves and allows them to have a good night’s sleep. 

2. Black Cohosh

This is an herb that is scientifically proven to treat menopause symptoms like hot flashes, moodiness, extreme dryness, itching, irregular sweating, etc. 

The preferred way to consume black cohosh is in its liquid or tincture form. Experts believe that 20 to 40 mg of black cohosh tablets can be taken twice a day for up to 5 months. 

3. Dong Quai

Dong Quai is beneficial for women that want to improve the quality of their blood. Dong Quai is available in the form of supplements, and you can take this herbal remedy in the form of tablets, tinctures, capsules, or tea to make the most of it. 

4. Kava

As mentioned above, menopause often leads to weight gain among women. Getting rid of extra calories can be quite challenging as the weakened muscles become less respondent to insulin in the body. Significant studies show that drinking kava can assist women with weight loss. Plus, it is also a great home remedy to lower stress and promote better sleep. 

Kava can be best consumed in the form of tea, powder, tinctures, and capsules. To promote better sleep, consume kava an hour before you go to bed. 

5. Wild Yam

Many traditional medications consider using wild yam instead of estrogen replacement therapies for the treatment of the symptoms of menopause. Some women prefer to apply wild yam creams on their skin to treat hot flashes. Wild yam helps increase estrogen levels in your body, which, in turn, control hot flashes to a great extent. 

While these herbal remedies for menopause can help treat the symptoms of menopause, consider additional measures like avoiding spicy foods, alcohol, and caffeine, as these are known to trigger some of the most troubling menopause symptoms.
